KWI BLOG

Blogbook & New Series

Blogbook 2024

This year, we are once again bringing together a selection of blog posts from the KWI Blog in our small blogbooks. In the pocket-friendly blog books, we take a brief foray through the contributions of the past year and invite you to (re)read them. They bring together contributions from employees of the KWI and affiliated institutions, from fellows of the last cohorts as well as from students and researchers from other universities.

You can find more information on the 2023 edition here.

New Blog Series “Guilty Pleasures” & “Letzte Sätze”

In January, KWI launches a new blog series titled “Letzte Sätze” in preparation for the interdisciplinary workshop “Das war's. Praktiken und Ästhetiken des Aufhörens” (March, KWI). The series is curated by Laura M. Reiling and Manuel Förderer. It explores the role of final sentences in literature, film, music, and theory, analyzing examples from history.

Meanwhile, the “Guilty Pleasures” series continues, featuring upcoming texts on Jovana Reisinger’s book Pleasure and the themes of pleasure and discomfort.

  CRYOCULTURES

How has artificial cooling shaped the world we live in? The ERC-funded research project “Cultures of the Cryosphere” sets out to explore the profound impact of these technologies on modern societies. From January 6th to 8th, the research group held their inaugural workshop at KWI, bringing together guests and researchers.

On January 7, 2025, Prof. Bronwyn Parry (Australian National University) introduced the project to the public in an engaging lecture at KWI’s Garden Room, exploring the histories and geographies of our relationship with cold and highlighting how cooling technologies have influenced everything from artificial insemination to the microwave oven—and even thought experiments like “the brain in the vat.”

RECENT HIGHLIGHT

KWI Posters Now Part of the German Poster Museum

The KWI is delighted to announce that the “Guilty Pleasures” posters have been added to the collection of the German Poster Museum (DPM) at Museum Folkwang. The posters were designed by Leipzig-based agency Happy Little Accidents, who also re-launched KWI's website five years ago. This close and fruitful partnership has now been honored in a special way. “We are delighted to be included in the poster collection and feel truly honored,” said Creative Director Tobias Dahl.

The DPM is unique in Germany, documenting over 350,000 posters spanning politics, business, and culture, from the beginnings of poster art to today. This prestigious collection, which includes works by renowned artists like Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, now features the Guilty Pleasures poster trio as well.
